Close to the Shinjuku station, volunteers remind pedestrians of smoking prohibition in the street, except in designated areas. Pocket tissue packs (usually used for advertising) are distributed to raise awareness of this ban. In Tokyo, wards are their own smoking regulations based on Tokyo Metropolitan Government policy
