Kabukicho by night, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, Japan. Kabukicho is a district located near Shinjuku Station. Known as the city's traditional "pleasure quarters," it is still known as a red-light district, but has also become a major shopping, restaurant, and nightclub area as well. The district's name comes from late-1940s plans to build a kabuki theater: although the theater was never built, the name stuck. Tokyo, August 2005.
